Ella, The Final Chapter

Ella, is blocked and done. A lot of croaking went into the making of her. She is off balance as described in a previous post, airy due to using a sock yarn, a wonderful handpaint from Woolarina (I had 3 balls and fell short just a smidgen) and luscious in color. But she is all mine and a FO! While many a lace knitter found this pattern easy, it took me quite a while to figure out the big picture. I love her none the less.

This guys have probably been sitting outside on this knoll for sometime but I never paid much attention to them. I was stuck in traffic on Tuesday and there they were, swimming in the rain!

I wonder sometimes why I have the lost the urge to go the beach lately. I loved the beach as a child and spent hours swimming to the reef at Ala Moana, surfing at Waikiki, and cruising the North Shore.
My sisters and I, and then my sons, all learned to swim at the Richard's Street YWCA. It is still there across the street from Iolani Palace, (the only palace in America that real royalty every ruled from), hidden away by the giants that have sprung up around it. The old Hawaiian Electric Building, main Library and Post Office are still there. Oh the memories.

Ooh, I forgot about my Happy Along! The Ribbi Cardi was gifted and fit the incredibly talented Misa, tiny lady that she is! No pictures, though as she was busy working. Her comment "I love it!" thrilled me:) What knitter doesn't like to hear that about one of their projects!

"croaking" That's cute!

Will you swing the long side up and fasten it with a brooch? I love the way the colors work with the lace. Nice! --Syl

Great colors!

Yeah, I've lost my beach mojo awhile ago (and not because I don't live Maui anymore)...the beaches tend to be overcrowded, and the best 'secret' spots are not so secret anymore...not like how it used to be. *sigh*

Ella is just gorgeous! You did a fantastic job.

you did it! and it looks great, even in the asymmetrical form it has taken! in my eyes, some lacework takes on such a serious tone with solid colors in certain patterns but this, oh this is so much lighthearted with the watermelon bubblicious colorway and fortune cookie motif. it's clear now -- i'm going to have to make one for myself!

Ella's gorgeous!! Yum, watermelon, pomegranates and limes! I love the statues. I, too, have lost the beach mojo. When I first moved here I went every weekend. Thanks for calling me this eve. I hope you feel better, sometimes being physically ill is easier than being ground down about work...

Oh yummy, I totally adore your Ella! It looks just fantastic with the yarn you've been using, and those colours are truly luscious! Light and airy - yep, that's perfect indeed!
Hm... if I think about living in Hawaii and having the chance to go to the beach basically every day, I do begin to drool! But then again, if you have something every day for most or all your life, it might somehow loose its attraction a bit over time - like we here won't climb up on the mountains all the time anymore, people living at the beach won't go there all the time after a while. And I suppose it's pretty crowded there, perhaps this is why you'd prefer a pool more than the beach by now?

I my goodness Ella is so freaking beautiful! You are going to get so many compliments on this shawl evertime you wear it.
That pool looks so inviting! I tend to want to hang out at the pool more than the beach myself although I still want to stay at a hotel on the beach.

I love the colors in ella! Beautiful! I usually notice those bathing beauties during Christmas when I'm looking at the lawn decorations. When I first noticed them, I didn't knnow what they were - ha! ha! Then after looking at them for a few seconds (while the light was red) I realized they were supposed to be floating in water! I learned to swim at the same Y. I only got to the second level though so I really didn't learn to swim - just glide!

Oh I adore those colors!! You did a great job and look at the way you've designed a new shawl. I don't fix every mistake-it's my creation and I don't mind deviating a bit. It looks gorgeous on you, enjoy it.
