Dreams of Flowers and Morels and The Cat that Ate the Sock

Seattle was just beautiful last week. In fact it was downright hot on the last day. It must have something to do with the fact that I was there on business, packed an umbrella, and did not bring the swimsuit or shorts. The flowers growing out of the sidewalks, plantings, and bundles of flowers at Pike Market, the University and Ballard Farmer's markets were beyond wonderful. The poppies and peonies were so glorious as were the fascinating array of colors and shadings of flowers I couldn't identify. The conference was right on the wharf and I got the view of the Cascades and the Olympic Mountains.

On new sight for me was Gas Works Park

(picture from http://www.seattle.gov/tour/union_photos.htm-wouldn't you know I forgot my camera?)

I would love to go back there and spend some time with the funky old gas works. There is a moon dial at the top of a hill with a panoramic Seattle City view, Space Needle and all as well as Lake Union with it's boats and birds.

I ate at some great restaurants. Icon Grill, Lola's, and The Palace Kitchen" Tom Douglas, the owner of Lola's and The Palace Kitchen was at both places. I resisted running up and getting his autograph. The Palace Kitchen had wonderful food and salads and accommodated me with a side of sauteed fresh morels! Most yummy! The use of all the local fresh produce really made these places unique experiences.

I knit a little on one sock. I was good on the yarn diet, but got some Koigu, 'cuz sock yarn doesn't count. My other purchases included couple books and the smaller size pompom maker.

When I got home, the body of the sock had arrived. Buddy the cat ate a few pieces out of it. I will have to figure out how to fix the holes. The real challenge seems to be the part of the ribbing he ate. I'll have to see if I have any yarn left.

I'm afraid he will just eat the repaired sock. I hope he doesn't have a bezoar

It was great visiting my old friends. We contemplated the aches and pains of getting older, plotted ways to retire, and other jobs we could do, and reminisced a bit. Ebony has grey hair now but seems just as frisky.

Stop here if you don't want to read something sad.

While I was away I lost my canary, Tweedy. I know I didn't write about losing my Cockatiel a couple months ago as it was sudden and I still have mixed emotions about losing her to egg binding. They were both senior citizens in bird years and brought me much joy in their lives. Tweedy with his lovely singing-how can such a little green body generate so much sound?, and his agile flying about the cage. Cockatiel with her curiosity and kisses. I have a guilty feeling sometimes about birds in cages, but it was the only life they every knew.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your Tweedy! If you haven't already you may want to read over the Rainbow Bridge poem http://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm
Fair warning, it will make you cry!

It sounds like you had a wonderful trip. I really can't believe the missing chunks in those socks! What an animal :)

I am so sorry about your recent avian losses. I can't believe you were here in Seattle and I didn't know it. It would have been lovely to have met you in person and to have had the opportunity to take you to some yarn shops! You had great weather though.

OH how terrible for you! It's always so hard to lose a beloved pet. I'm very sorry for you. Is there any chance he'll fly back?

I'm so sorry about the loss of your birds. I wish I had better words that could give better comfort.

You know I cannot get over the way that sock was eaten! That's just outrageous! I'm thinking that Quincy is actually an angel even though he does go tearing around the house with my handknit socks in his mouth. At least he returns them whole!

Bezoar indeed! (Was going to name a puppy that, once) Sorry about your little bird friends. They can be amazing with huge personalities in their tiny frames. We had a zebra finch that was the light of our lives for years! It is sad to see them go....

Hi Sweetie,
I am really sorry about the loss of your little friends. I have always adored birds, and seriously have thought about getting a finch or canary at some point or another. Glad your trip was fun. Interestingly, I have the same Koigu. Maybe we should have a challenge between us to knit up something fun! ;)
Bunny hugs,
=:8

Oh so sorry to hear about Tweedy. He was a sweet little thing. I think the loss of a bird leaves the house so very quiet, in a sad way.

Ahh, the bezoar...a koigu bezoar should surely have some magickal powers, though, doncha think? It might restore a lost knitting mojo. That is one BAD cat, chewing up the sock like that. Suddenly Cricket's hijinx seem small-time. Is he a young cat, or just a very motivated one?

Will we see you this Thursday?

So sorry for your loss. I had a yellow parakeet named Tweety when I was little. Had lots of parakeets and were very attached to them.
yummm, love Koigu.

Oh, poor you! I'm so sorry about the loss of your Tweedy as well as Cockatiel! It's always so sad losing pets - they're spending time with us, bringing us so much joy and suddenly they're gone, it's really hard to cope with that!
I hope that you'll be able to cheer up soon - perhaps the memories of your good time in Seattle may help you a bit with that?

Christine and Mike are very sorry about Tweedy and we promise that Buddy generally does not have access to our knitted items. The sock-eating occurred when he had mistakenly been shut in a normally off limits room!
