Gansey Progress

I have one sleeve and the neck done on my gansey and one sleeve to go. I might have to shorten the sleeve but I haven't decided yet. I could have knit one size smaller but it has been a lot of fun so far. As I have limited places to wear this in Hawaii, unless I plan to drive up to the top of Haleakala, (All text and images copyright 1999, Steven K. Goldsmith) I envision wearing this on a trek to Whidbey Island or Madison, Wisconsin, where this crazy Hawaiian has gone for the winter.

The Beaverslide mule-spun yarn has a nice hearty feel and smell to it. It is not next to the skin soft, but not really as scratchy as I thought it would be. My washed swatch felt even better, so I'm thinking this gansey will be even better after a good soak...but first the other sleeve!

Holy camole, that is BEAUTIFUL, Barbara!!! I can't believe how much detail is in that pattern and how FAST you whipped it up!! The color is just gorgeous and I love all the detailing. Haleakala would be perfect, or even Mauna Kea if you make a trek over to the Best, whoops, I mean the Big Island. ;-) Lately, though, it's been so cool and breezy that it'd be perfect for mornings in town or on the Windward side. You definitely need to wear it and show it off- it's so beautiful! Awesome job- can't wait to see the modeled shot. ;-) Have a great Sunday and take care! :-)

Wow! Barbara you are a super knitter! I'm such a newbie. I've only knitted scarves and a pair of Mary Janes in a KAL this November - and I struggled with that! Can you believe I've never been up to Haleakala?

Barb, that is so beautiful! I love the gansey patterns - I have not tried one yet.
Chris told me that Hawaiians pull out their cold weather gear when it is about 60 degrees there ;) I hope you have the opportunity to wear it there! And if not, then Wisconsin it is ;)

Gorgeous sweater! I'd love to have a sweater like that so it would give me a good excuse to head to somewhere cold enough to wear it. Good luck finishing it! :)
